A hard, heavy, and strong specie with fine texture. Heartwood is a light brown, with a sapwood that is white. Growing throughout the Eastern US, the best stands are located near the Great Lakes and northern New England. Trees can develop figure including curly grain, mottle, and birds-eye all of which increase its value substantially.
